Post-Transplant PatientsRole of the Kidney Recipient in the Transplant Companions ProgramThe support and assistance of kidney recipients who have already experienced the process of receiving a new kidney is a vital component to the success of the program. The kidney recipient acts as a facilitator and assistant to the health care professional during the interactive workshops by providing feedback, sharing his or her personal experiences and offering advice and guidance to patients who are waiting for their kidney transplant. The kidney recipient is an individual who has experienced a successful kidney transplant, is a good communicator, feels comfortable sharing his or her personal experiences and enjoys community involvement through programs such as Transplant Companions. Together with the health care professional, the kidney recipient plays an important role in supporting pre-transplant patients who are preparing for a kidney transplant. I now appreciate being alive so much more. I try not to get caught up in negativity. Every day of good health is a gift to enjoy and make the most of. And through the Kidney Foundation and Transplant Companions I try to give back a little to others struggling with some of the same issues." Pamela Mitchell
